Insurgentes / Avenues, Marc Nasdor’s third book of poetry, is a sequence of forty short poems which focus on the language that floats around us in the media, in overheard dialogue, and in personal conversations. Rather than transparent narrative, the poems use tangential and disjunctive phrases and sentences to better reflect the way in which we receive language in the world. Regarding form, the poems combine three-line stanzas with normal punctuation with indented breath-line stanzas with little or none, to reflect as well, the different ways we hear language.
